San Juan De Ulua

San Juan de Ulua is the name of a small island in Mexico where the ancient fortress and the former port (also of the same name) are located. The construction of the fortress was planned by the Spaniards under Hernán Cortés the April 22, 1519 in the context of the discovery of America and pirate attacks and privateers of the time against Spain.

The resort and island are off the coast of the Gulf of Mexico in the port city of Veracruz in the Mexican state of the same name.
